In longmont air conditioning service is usually offered alongside servicing of heaters for the interior of cars, and for good reason. A car heater is necessary to ensure that the climate is controlled and works alongside the air conditioner as two sides of the same coin. Repairs and maintenance on a heater can be compared to the same type of job being done on the AC unit. The difference is that a heater repair usually requires a lot more know- how to be able to repair it and carries with it the hazard of a serious burn if the repair person isn't careful about what they're doing.
Heater Repairs
The functioning of the heater is linked to the system that keeps a vehicle's temperature down. Heat exchange happens at the radiator at the front of the vehicle which releases the heat out to the open air via the coolant which then recirculates back to the engine to repeat the process. Heaters utilize a smaller radiator in order to keep the cabin warm. Some of the more common heater problems that arise are:
1. Thermostat Issues: When the engine is heating up, it usually affects a thermostat that deals with the flow of coolant into the area around the engine. The hotter the engine gets, the more coolant flow is needed to keep it cool. Since the same heat from the engine is used to warm the cabin, if this thermostat switch is broken or worn, the flow of coolant isn't regulated and this translates into the engine not getting hot enough to warm up the interior of the car.
2. Obstruction in the Coolant Circulation: Over time, with the filling and refilling of coolant, there can be a buildup of residue within the cooling system. This buildup of particulate matter can grow to be so large that it obstructs the flow of coolant and makes it difficult for the engine to remain cool, much less allow for the coolant to warm the cabin. A radiator flush is one of the best ways to deal with this particular problem and most auto repair shops offer it as a service.
3. Bad Blower Fan: The blower fan is a major part of the heating process because it allows the transfer of air from the warm coolant circulation system to the interior of the cabin as well as circulates the air within the cabin so that the entire cabin is warmed up.
When the blower fan is being difficult, this could mean that the blower itself is at fault or that the circuit to the blower has a short in it. This usually requires a professional to take a look at the blower circuit to see if it's actually a problem in the circuit itself or the fuse that runs the blower.
Cooling and Heating are Necessities
In warmer climates, a heater is unnecessary and the addition of air conditioning is a creature comfort. In a temperate region, heaters and air condition units need to be maintained because if they become broken it can lead to a difficult situation if a driver is required to use their vehicle in the dead of winter.
